Eco-Schools is an international program of environmental and sustainable developmental
education for schools.
The aim of Eco-Schools is to raise students’ awareness of the environment as well as
sustainable development through classroom activities and community action. The Eco-schools themes include topics such as: Water, Waste/Litter, Energy, Nature and Biodiversity, School Grounds, Transport/Sustainable Mobility, Healthy Living, Noise and Climate Change.
By March 2010, the programme was implemented in 47 countries, involving 32 000 schools.
We are proud to say that Southdowns College is not only part of the “Eco schools” family, we have also just been awarded our GREEN FLAG for our continued environmental efforts and for meeting the requirements set out by the Eco-Schools founders for three years running! (In our first year we were awarded the bronze award and in the second year, the silver award).
Let’s all continue working together to make a difference to our environment and to our future, by creating awareness at school and taking action wherever possible at home, at school and in the greater community!
